Forehand Placement after a Cross-Step

Strokes

Hi Alois,

Nowadays I try to play a 3rd ball attack with my forehand from all table. After the serve I prepare for pivot, and if the ball goes to my forehand I cross over. I have a decent chance of reaching that shot, but the problem is that I always play crosscourt. I feel like the momentum of my body during the cross over inevitably throws the ball in that direction, and I can do nothing with it. How to play down the line after the cross step?

Hi Ilia,

It is just a matter of changing the angle of your wrist slightly.  Put a target on the table and do some multi ball with the wide forehand and see if you can get the ball to go down the line.

Forehand Smash

The forehand smash is used when the ball is around shoulder height or above. It is a much harder stroke to play than it looks. Follow the tips on this video lesson to ensure your smash is an effective weapon.

Interesting. I can't play cross court at all if I have to move to the wide forehand

HI Johan,

I would think that momentum would make that the more likely scenario.  Ilia must have a particular angle with his wrist when he runs to that ball.

I will try to do this with the robot on Saturday. One thing is that cross-step footwork is an emergency kind of movement, so there is very little time to adjust. I will try to slow it down :)

Johan

I find it interesting too :D
Because I usually manipulate the amount of sidespin on my loop in order to choose its placement.
Alois, please, what is your opinion on this?
