Forehand topspin trouble

Strokes

Hi,

I find my backhand topspin is very strong but I tend to 'slap' my forehands sometimes. Also, my hitting arm drags across my body giving me less time to react to the incoming ball.

Hi Dan,

The finish position for your forehand topspin is a crucial part of the stroke and also of your whole game.  Make sure you get the finish of your stroke to be up at your right eyebrow.  This is vital to get the stroke correct and to make sure you don't slap at the ball.

Countering a Chop Block

The key is to countering a chop block is to ensure you wait for the ball as it comes through much slower compared to a normal block. You also need to lift the ball more than you would against a regular block.

Hi Princess,

You need to get the ball rolling forward to generate the topspin. You can do this with the backhand serve by either coming up the back of the ball with a brushing action or by brushing over the top of the ball. In fact these principles apply regardless of which serve you are executing. Just remember you need to get the ball spinning forwards by brushing it.

Good work Dan.  I have used the eyebrow thing often and it has a really good success rate.
