Generating speed with a lighter bat

Strokes

Hi Coach,

So my problem is, I started playing a few months back and I'm generally an attacking player and rely a lot on speedy topspin shots. But all this while I was playing with a spare old bat. I've recently got a new bat which is much lighter than the one I'm used to, and while it's easier to control the heavy-spin shots with the new one, as soon as I try to generate any speed (especially with my backhand) the ball is flying off the table.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Shinjini,

Just check that the rubber still has good grip on it.  If it hasn’t got any grip or sponge under the rubber the ball will not be able to generate topspin to get the ball down on the table.
