Serving
Dear Ping Skills,
Thank you for the good video on getting spin on serves. I am not able to get enough spin to cause the ball to roll back to me or to swerve sideways much on bounce. Do you need a lot of speed or strength or a really Tacky rubber to do that? I am using a Donic Baum Carrerra blade with a Xiom Omega V rubber, will this setup be enough to accomplish the tasks in the video through practice? From the video it looks easy to apply backspin by just brushing the underside of the ball, however I do not get the effects on the ball after performing the racket movements. Are there any other things we need to be aware of and work on? Thanks.
Hi Kenneth,
That setup will definitely be good enough to be able to generate spin. It doesn't take a lot of strength at all. Just getting the contact correct.
The key to getting the spin is the angle of your racket to then give you the ability to brush the ball on contact. I think another good tutorial to have a look at is the Ma Lin Ghost Serve Bat Angle which will show you how the angle makes a big difference.
