Hello I am practicing my table tennis skills again and I am quite good with the forehand and backhand counterhit strokes now i am moving onto the topspin strokes but I am having a difficulty in knowing if I am hitting the ball correctly how should I know if the ball that I hit had topspin in it? Thank you for your time.

Hi Majid,

It is good that you are feeling comfortable with the counterhit strokes.

The topspin is just a small variation on the counterhit.  Start by doing some counterhit and then start to brush the top of the ball a bit more.  This will generate the topspin that you are looking for.

Take another look at the tutorial on the Forehand Topspin Against Block and watch the start and finish positions of the stroke and then pay particular attention to the contact.

Most players are told to always return to the ready position after every stroke but that might be hurting your game. In this video, we reveal a smarter way to recover:

✔ Track the ball immediately after your shot
✔ Move your racket into position for the next shot instead of blindly resetting
✔ Improve your timing, balance, and flow during rallies

Whether you’re a beginner or advanced player, understanding this subtle change can have a big impact on your consistency and speed around the table.
