I was wondering whether you could explain the different types of table tennis bat handles as it is  very confusing?

Hi Will,

There are a few main handle types.  The flare which is wider at the end than up near the head.  The straight which is the same all the way down the handle and the Anatomic which has a wider part in the middle that fits into your hand.

These are just a matter of preference.  They do not effect the performance of the actual bat.

Tone is in Your Fingers

There's is an old saying about guitar playing - tone is in your fingers. And If you've ever seen a really good guitarist play an old guitar then you'll understand how true that saying is. I know we go on a lot about this topic but it is so true. Once you've got yourself a decent bat, it's no longer up to the equipment, it's up to YOU!

Hi coach,

I have heard tht flared handle suits forehand and straight ones makes backhand easy... Is tht the case? Pingskills rook and touch both appear to be flare handled frm their pics. correct?

Thanks a lot! What would be the best handle for an allround shakehand player?

Thanx

Hi Rajesh,

I don't think any type of handle suits any type of player.  It is merely what feels more comfortable in your hand.
