High ball defense

I'm a right handed shake hand style player who has recently been playing a left handed high ball defensive player. Who generates high amounts of side spin in his lob. I frequently find myself getting jammed in the back left side of the court and unable to produce a strong backhand smash. What would be the best way to defend his lob?

Hi Shawn,

When playing a smash you should always try to get around and play a forehand.

Take a look at the Lesson on Smashing.  You will see that one of the key points is to make sure you are moving while the ball is up in the air.  Use the time the ball is in the air to get yourself into position to make a forehand.
