Hey coach,

When execute any topspin stroke , most of the time the reason of failure is that the ball hits the edge of the racket( the place where the side tape is used). It happens very frequently and leads to irritation . Please help me with this.

And i wanted to ask that is it necessary to aim to contact the ball in the middle of the racket at all times?

Hi Utkarsh,

Try just opening the angle of your racket up so amore of the racket is facing the ball on approach.  If you stick to the start and finish positions we show for the topspin this will also help.  If you finish too low with your swing it also increases the risk of hitting the edge of the racket.

When you get more control you can think about hitting the ball closer to the top edge when making more topspin.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
