Mental Preparation
Hii,
I am improving my techniques, looking at the bat of my adversary when he plays, analyzing a little the angle, the spin, how to play back... But when my adversary plays fast, I don't have time to concentrate on all that and play a little randomly and without thinking.
How can I improve my concentration and sustain it please?
Much Thanks,
Dan.
Hi Dan,
There are too many things to think about individually when you are playing.
It is best to watch the ball and the rest will take care of itself. You will see the spin and the speed of the ball, you will see when it is coming fast or slow.
You need to practice this in training as well. Think about spending part of your training where you are just working on tracking the ball in the rally. This will also improve your concentration.
Most drills involve one person performing the exercise and the other placing the ball as required by the exercise. We call this person placing the ball the controller. When you are acting as the controller it is a great opportunity to practice your blocking and concentration. As blocking is an important part of the game you should be 100% focused at this time. You also owe it to your training partner to be blocking effectively so they get the most from their exercise.
