How do you return the ball when it is high and bounces once on your side of the table and then it moves back and bounces on your opponent's side of the table.
Hi Joel,
I've only seen this occur in a match a couple of times. It seems to happen when a player is back from the table lobbing and the ball hits the edge of their bat and goes up high with some backspin on it. If it lands close enough to the net it can spin back onto their side of the table.
The problem with trying to get to this ball is that if it lands close to the net and spins back, you simply can't reach it from behind the table. The only way to get to such a ball is to move down the side of the table. Fortunately as this usually happens when the ball goes up high, you'll have plenty of time to move around.
To return effectively you must be able to read the type of spin on the serve. In this lesson we give you some tips on how to recognise backspin, topspin, and sidespin serves.
