Serving
Hi, I just wanna ask about Jan Ove Waldner and his serving strategies, where he always changes his serves frequently with a lot of spin and speed. He makes the ball look like it has a heavy topspin but it came as a strong backspin. How does he really serve? Maxwell
Hi Maxwell,
Waldner has some special skills. The one where he serves the Pendulum serve that looks like topspin but it is backspin, he moves his hand down while lifting his shoulder and arm. So the bat is hitting the ball downwards while giving the impression of topspin.
I think a good way to improve these serves is to watch him serving many, many times.
The float or no spin serve is an effective tool to have in your bag of serves. It adds good variation to your serves and can often set you up with an easy 3rd ball opportunity.
