Equipment
Hi Alois and Jeff,
I'm now playing 2 years with the same rubbers on average I play 2 times a week.
My current rubber is LKT PRO XP.
They tell me that my rubber need to be replaced but how do I know when it's time to replace them ?
Can I feel that with my hand on the rubber or should I feel that when playing ?
What is the average time/durability of a new rubber playing on average 2 times a week ?
When do you guys change your rubbers ?
Please give me your opinion,
Thanks in advance,
Mark
Hi Mark,
After 2 years the rubber is probably going to be starting to wear.
If you run your finger across the rubber, it should grip your finger. YOu can also look at the surface of the rubber to see if it is even. You will find the rubber will start to wear in the middle where you hit it most. You will see the pimple starting to show on the surface of the rubber.
We recommend changing rubber every 80 to 100 hours or so. Of course that can vary depending on how the rubber is being used and cared for.
The top players would change their rubbers every couple of weeks but they are doing a lot fo hours in that time and they are also hitting and spinning the ball violently each time.
There's is an old saying about guitar playing - tone is in your fingers. And If you've ever seen a really good guitarist play an old guitar then you'll understand how true that saying is. I know we go on a lot about this topic but it is so true. Once you've got yourself a decent bat, it's no longer up to the equipment, it's up to YOU!
