How to catch a ball

In a video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ojc2nkZjOPM, xu xin was seen catching the ball with no bounce. How do you do that? I try it but the ball always bounces serveral time on the bat first. Is it also foul to catch the ball during competition?

Hi Jeremy,
You do this with a lot of practice and touch.
You can try this by matching the ball speed with the bat speed and then slow the ball down. Just give it a try.

Yes it would be illegal.

Thanks for the suggestion. Is it easier to do with a chinese tacky rubber or a european rubber?
