Dear alois and jeff.

i have no problem with all-round or defensive players but when i go against an attacker its hard to keep up with their pace and even pushing the ball short won't open doors for me... they are very fast paced players? thanks in advance pingskills..

Hi Samuel,

YOu need ot work on your short pushing and placement.

If you can learn to push the ball short and low it will stop the all out attacker.  You need to work on this skills like any other skill of course. This is a skill that will take a bit of time because it is such a fine skill.

The other thing that you have to think about is finding the right place to put the ball to make it as difficult as possible for them to attack.  For example, do they find it more difficult to attack from the wide forehand or deep in the backhand or from the middle of the table in their cross over point?

If you are a similar level to them, there will be a way to stop them.  Of course if they are a really strong player they may just be too good at the short game.

Once you find some tactics for them, go to the PingSkills Vault and record the tactics so you don't forget them.

Tactics Against a Good Short Pusher

Use a long push or a flick to open up the game against someone who is beating you at the short game. It might not be your favourite way to play but if you are losing the short game you need to mix things up. In the long run you certainly need to improve your own short game.
