Hi Chris,

What type of bat are you using at the moment.

The Rook is a good first bat.  It comes with rubber on it already.  It comes with Lion 5 Star rubber which is a reasonable first rubber.  It is not too fast but allows you to generate spin and learn your strokes correctly.

The stroke of the smash and the topspin are both covered in our Strokes & Technique lessons.  If you are not making the shots consistently, try slowing the ball down.  For the topspin, make sure you are getting enough spin on the ball for it to dip onto the table.
