Strategy
At my table tennis club, I play a player who uses short pips on his forehand. It's quite unique considering that most players who use pips, use it on their backhand. But either way, the pips throws off my timing especially in a rally where the player will use both sides and I end up hitting the dead ball in the net. So how do you play a player using short pips on his forehand?
Hi Mike,
I think one of the keys is to put a lot of topspin on the ball when hitting to their forehand. This is a more difficult ball for them to handle. If you hit the ball flat and fast it is an easier ball for them to handle.
We do have a lesson in our Match Strategy section on Playing Against Short Pimples that will show you the principles.
A chopper likes to get back from the table and get into a nice rhythm. If you keep the defender close to the table in the early part of the rally, it's hard for them to transition back into their chopping position. So keep the ball short on your serve and try and catch them unprepared. Watch the video to find out more great tactics to use against a defensive chopper.
