Hi PingSkills,

How do you put sidepspin in to open play, and how do you perform a sidespin shot

(I am not sure what the proper term is)

Hi Shaun,

Adding sidespin is something that does add variety but it also adds risk.  We do have a lesson on the Sidespin Forehand Topspin that will show you how to get started with it.
