How to return a smash

when i try to return a smash all that happens is it goes high up in the air and gives them the chance to smash it again, goes off the end of the table or when i close my bat to make it go low to the net it will just hit the net

please help me

Hi Joe,

Once you are in a position that your opponent is smashing to you, there is only a small chance you will win the rally.

If you do find yourself in this situation, try to get the ball back the best way that you can.  Lobbing is good because it makes them play another ball.  Trying to block it back is a high risk shot.  It is possible but you have to be able to read where the ball is going and return it with just the right angle.

Before that, think about how to prevent them from getting into a position to smash.  Try to keep the ball low and to difficult positions on the table to prevent them from making the big shot.  You can look at our lesson on Keeping The Ball Low to help you with this.
