Hi Joe,
I like your enthusiasm. I am sure that the whole of the UK is a buzz after such a great Olympics.
Firstly work really hard over the next 4 years. Usually it takes at least 10 years of training to achieve the goal of being an Olympian. Take it in steps. If you haven't already done so, join a club. Then work on the strokes that we show you in sequential order in our Strokes & Technique lessons. Also bring in some ideas from our Serving Secrets and Receiving Secrets lessons and use our Training Secrets to bring this all together to learn how to train and what training you should do to gain the fastest improvements.
Do all of this and then in 4 years time see where you are at. You could be a name that Paul Drinkhall or even Zhang Jike is talking about.
In this training plan we put together all of the different returns we've learnt and focus on producing an effective return. You should be aiming to topspin all long serves and then weighing up your options on the short serve. A good short push is a great option but you also need some variation with either a flick or a long fast push. Go out and put this training plan into action and work on improving your return.
