I was wondering how to answer a smash by an offensive hit rather than choping or lobbing?

Hi Elie,

This is a difficult task.  You need to be away from the table and have enough time to do this.

Usually when someone is smashing at you, you don't get that time.  However, if you do see the smash well enough and are in position yo ucan either use a topspin or flat fast hit stroke.

Because you will be away from the tabel the stroke will need to be quite long to generate enough power to get the ball back effectively.

Unfortunately this is not going to be a consistent shot. If someone smashes the ball at you, it will be coming fast and you are most likely going to lose the point from that position. It can come off sometimes but it's not a tactic that will win you matches. :)
