Strokes
I keep hitting the nets most of the time when training. I was wondering how to reduce hitting the nets as much as possible
Thank you.
Hi Kiro,
Think about the amount of topspin you are putting on your strokes. By doing the strokes correctly you will generate enough topspin to make the ball clear the net and still make it curve down onto the table.
Take a look at the Forehand Counterhit and Backhand Counterhit for example and you will see that even these simple strokes generate some topspin to make them safer.
Topspin is the key.
The banana flick has become one of the most important returns in table tennis. It allows you to attack almost any short ball and places your opponent under immediate pressure. Still it is a difficult stroke that takes a lot of practice to master.

The fun thing is one coach is showing him something about bat angle at 5:00,
and another coach shows him how to hit the ball before it drops table level at 7:10,
and at 3:10 are these counterhits or topspins I am not so sure but I liked these strong shots. It seems to me wrist is also active here.
I watch the technique instruction videos here at pingskills repeatedly then try to copy them in front of a mirror. I am getting close to 50 and had 2 times microdiscectomy but I have the motivation. Doctor said it is OK but I am not so sure if he knows how much table tennis can be demanding. It is fun in itself but I hope it can also help in focus and perception. So to young friends I can tell don't bother about age, if you enjoy doing it go on, it can be helpful to you in different areas, too.
Hi Levent,
At 3:10 they are doing counterfeits with some topspin on it. There is not a definite line between what is a counterhit and a topspin.
Thanks for the video link.
