Dear Alois / Jeff,

My kid (Hridaan) is just 3 years old. I see him watching cartoon network (TV) full time... he all ball games though!

He is now able to run ... (not able to catch the ball) and can hard hit the TT ball with TT bat... like in lawn tennis :)

Do you think its right time to start teaching him Table Tennis... how should I start ... what grip should I teach him... I mean ... is this the right time and how to start teaching him ? Please guide !!!

Thanks in advance ,

Ujjval

Hi Ujjval,

That is a very young age.  You can start to teach him to control the ball by getting him to roll the ball with the bat.  After that you can bounce the ball to him by hand and get him to tap it to you.  This will be good for developing coordination and tracking skills.

You could also take a look at some ideas presented in this manual.  Tops Table Tennis: Table Tennis in Schools Program

Thanks Alois... I have got a ball (balloon like) and I played with Hridaan on our drawing room centre table... he has started showing sign of improvement and hitting the ball in controlled manner. So we have rallies too... really I mean it !!!

Your tops mannual is a fabulous piece of work for teaching young kids.

Thanks a tonne... for ideas to teach a small kid !!!

I would like to interact with you as a going concern for Hridaan !!!
