Strokes
Hi,
Something that happens often in my play is that I always hit the first topspin in the rally but lose my balance after that and it doesn't quite get converted into a point. I guess it probably has to do with my skinny legs. What advice do you have to offer about it? Should I head to the gym and work on my legs and expect it to improve or there is something else I should focus on while I'm on the table?
Appreciate your help!
Thanks,
Viki
Hi Viki,
Try to keep your legs bent and low during your first topspin stroke. Your legs should be quite wide as we show you in the Basic Stance lesson. Keep this position as you play the topspin. You will then find the second ball is easier.
This is a common mistake I see with players. They often come up as they are playing their stroke and then miss the next ball.

Hi,
I agree with Alois that this error is quite common. It happens to me also. Either I get upright from the bent position or my right leg comes off ground. My training partner is habituated with this error of mine so thankfully, he always observes and corrects me whenever I do it. Gradually I can feel that it is going away with concentration and practice.
P.S. I am also skinny. The lighter, the better!!
