Importance of watching the ball

Strokes

Hi coach,

Sometimes my opponent's stroke is so fast that I can't see what it really is. In addition, I must use my time to move to the ready position so I can't see how the ball curves clearly. In those cases, how should I determine what kind of spin of the ball?

Hi Hung,

You must always watch the ball carefully.  This is an absolute must with Table Tennis.  Everything will happen from there.

The more you work on watching the ball the faster your eyes wil get and the qicker you will see the ball.

This will also help you to see what spin is on the ball.  The moving will happen if you train your footwork often during your practice times.

Anticipation

How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.

I did not ask this question. Something must be wrong. I have not logged in for months yet it says that I asked this question. Do you mind explaining Jeff and Alois?

Hi Hung (who made the comment),

You are right, you did not ask the question. A different Hung asked the question. We only show the first name when people ask a question. If you want to see a list of questions that you have asked you can use the My Questions link in the right hand navigation bar.

I wonder if we should also display a person's username in the questions and comments as these are unique. That way you would know exactly who you were speaking with rather than relying on the first name. Another idea would be to display the first and last names. Let me know what you think? Should we make a change to the way the questions and comments are displayed?

I would be ok with first name and last initial or first name and user name. How about first name, city and country. I know that would require having users updating their profiles but I think it would be cool to know where people are from.

Thanks for the reply Alois. And yes, I agree with your suggestion. Maybe by adding the name of the person and their username would be much better and create less confusion.
