If i am serving topspin or backspin serve, is it ideal to always add varying amounts of sidespin to it? Such as a top+sidespin serve or backspin with sidespin serve?

Or would there be cases where a pure top or backspin serve is better?

At the pro level, how often do the players  add sidespin onto their serves?

Additionally, related to this, another Question i have is, can you even have a serve that is PURELY sidespin?

Hi Aaron,

Most of the time a serve will have some degree of sidespin on it.  The amounts and combinations of sidespin and topspin or sidespin and backspin will always change subtly.  Every now and then there will be a pure backspin serve but at the pro level there will rarely be a pure topspin serve.

To get pure sidespin is difficult, there will always tend to be a touch of topspin or backspin on it as well.

One situation where you shoud avoid adding sidespin is when you're serving to a pimple or antispin rubber. It will not make it really more difficult for them, but you will have to deal with the sidespin they will send you back, which will make your third ball attack more complicated to execute.

Though,I have an experience that a sidespin that is fast and close to pure can be difficult for some pips players.
