How Do You Successfully Recreate Jan Ove Waldner's Serve. I found him to be an idol in my uprising in becoming a successful player. I was always left with questions watching him play and would like to ask you how to do it.

Thanks Coach,

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

I wish I could replicate them too.

He does a lot of different things with his serves.  Which of his serves do you like in particular.

I like his Pendulum serve with the fake follow through where he throws his elbow forward.  To do this the main thing is to make the serve first and then do the follow through.  You still need to get a good contact to generate spin.  The follow through just gives your opponent a different picture of the serve and makes it a little more difficult to deal with.

The Kicker Serve

The kicker serve is one of our "must learn" serves. It's fast, fun, and has lots of topspin. It can be dangerous because if it's not fast enough and if you don't surprise your opponent then they may be able to attack it forcefully putting you on the defensive straight away. Used well though, and sparingly, it can be a great weapon. It can win you a point outright and it will stop your opponent from standing over the table waiting for your short serves since they need to be ready for anything.

One of his in particular is the reverse topspin pendulum. It almost resembles topspin but it isn't quite. It would be awesome if you made a video but one can dream.

Cheers,

Jonathan
