Left or right foot first footwork

Footwork

Hi Alois:

I'm just getting started with training and have a basic footwork question.  When moving to the left should I start the move with my left or right foot, or does it make a difference?  In the videos I have watched it seems that a move to the left is started with the right foot, and a move to the right is started with the left foot.

Your videos are VERY helpful and I thoroughly enjoy your website.  You and Jeff do a great job!

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the kind feedback about the site.

You can use either foot to start your movement.  I think I start with my reading foot whereas Jeff starts with his trailing leg.  In fact when you start to move more, you are actually jumping with both legs at the same time.

Thanks for the answer, Alois.  I thought it didn't matter.  I started playing at a local TTC was told by a well-meaning player that I should start the move as I described above. But on observing videos and play, it didn't seem to matter...
