Equipment
hi,
two questions...
1) is long inverted rubber pimples banned now?
2) is it possible to play normal backhand flick, smash and topspin if you have inverted long pips on your backhand?
also if you can guide on what kind of a player should have a long pips on one side and normal rubber on the other? i mean it is a good combination for a player having what kind of game?
Regards
Hi Manish,
You are allowed to use long pimples still. They did ban some very long pimples but there are plenty of long pimples that are legal.
It is difficult to play a flick with long pimples. You can do it if there is backspin on the ball. You can not generate a lot of spin on the ball with long pimples. That is one of the reasons we don't recommend players use them before they have a good grounding of strokes.
They are suitable for players playing a defensive game especially with the backhand.
There's is an old saying about guitar playing - tone is in your fingers. And If you've ever seen a really good guitarist play an old guitar then you'll understand how true that saying is. I know we go on a lot about this topic but it is so true. Once you've got yourself a decent bat, it's no longer up to the equipment, it's up to YOU!
