Hi Coach,
Previously, I had few questions and you answer all of them. As always thank you. I have another question that is, I debating between a combination paddle with long pips ox/short pips ox or combination paddle with long pips ox/smooth rubber .05 mm.
My friend who is 1800 level and using combination long pips ox and short pips ox, advised me to use like his. I watched him play and most of the time he return with his backhand long pips. The only time he used his forehand/short pips when the ball is high and smashed it.
I am old person, has limited mobility and below average height. When my opponent serve to my forehand, I can not moved fast enough to used my backhand/long pips.
What paddle would you recommend me to use.
Thank you,
Rodrigo
Hi Rodrigo,
You could try to experiment with the short pips ox on the forehand and chop the ball on the forehand side. The more usual combination though is to have a smooth rubber on the forehand side so that you can use it to attack when you want to.

Alois,
Thanks for your advice to chop with short pips on the forehand side. What I have been doing is topspin - low to high long. With the long pips I mostly chop/push or sometimes brush/chop and topspin.
First question. Whenever, I play 800 level opponents I win the first set and lose second and third set. What shall I do to win three sets.
Second question. Do you think the smooth rubber/thin sponge, return the ball fast compare to the short pips ox rubber?
Thanks a lot,
Rodrigo

Hi Rodrigo,
The short pips will go through flatter but you will be able to generate more speed with the smooth rubber beach you can get topspin which will mean that there is more margin for error over the net.
About winning against players for 3 sets, with the short pimples, once they get used to it you can't vary things much because you are relying on their spin. Perhaps the smooth rubber may help with this.
