Hi, Pingskills

For some while I am playing with LP, Tibhar Grass, 1,5mm. I am getting used to it, but there is a problem bugging me constantly. What ever serve my opponent throws at me, I return without any problem, except pure backspin. When I try to push it, the ball just pops out. What can I do, how to cope with that, what do you suggest.

Hi Sasha,

When they play a backspin serve you need to push through the ball flat and fast to get the ball  lower over the net.  If you push the ball it will be an easy attack for your opponent.  The stroke is a flat push.  You can also attack the ball like it would have topspin on it.

We have a lesson for our Premium members on this type of stroke in our lesson on LP Attack Against Backspin.

Yes, that looks fine and logical. But, what about long backspin, how can I perform against that with LP?

You can do the same.  Hit through the ball or you can attack the long backspin ball like you are making a topspin stroke.

OK, thank you, very much, I will give it a try. Can you jut tell me this. I recently bought Matsushita Defence Pro, defensive blade, very good, slow enough. Do you think I could use 1,8 mm inverted rubber fro chopping? Will it be too fast on this blade, because I want to have some ability for attacking. This rubber is tacky, Friendship Higher, Chinese rubber.

Hi Sasha,

That should be ok for chopping.  It should also give you the ability to attack.

And one more thing. Can you tell me where is the contact point with the ball when doing forehand chop?

You should contact it at the base of the ball or just behind it to generate the backspin.

By the base of the ball you probably mean the bottom of the ball, like when you generate backspin, am I right?

Yes that is right.

Hey, Alois

Since I started to play with LP, I want to learn as much as possible about it's abilities and effects. One of them is wobbling. Can you tell me how can I produce such effect, how to perform with my blade, because I see it is very effective against a lot of players

Hi Sasha,

To get a good wobble you need your opponent to play a sidespin ball.  Then come through really flat at the ball with the long pimple.  This will give the wobble effect.

Hi, Alois

I still have some issues regarding to serve returning with LP. The thing is, I tried to push flat when my opponent serves side spin, but the ball sometimes goes out, and sometimes goes into the net. What's the catch? I notice that Joo Se Huyk constantly pushes  like you usually do with inverted rubber, with backspin. Can you be more specific about this subject?

Hi Sasha,

Not a lot more specific.  I think try it out for a while and see if you can make the subtle adjustments.  The game is best learned by trial and error.  As long as you are doing the basics correctly you will start to get the feel for it.  You will start to adjust for the small changes that you need for each type of spin or slight variation of spin or direction.
