Hi Alois,
I used to use long pimple for defending as my backhand is not so good. Last week I started using the medium pimple. Have you got any DVD to help me improve the technique of using it? I am using it to chop the ball only. But I was told that the Chinese champion Miss Deng Ya Ping uses another style (for sure not chopping) to block the ball and hit it back. Have you such DVD or any similar one please? Thank you.
Hi Chi-Quang,
Sorry we don't have any videos at the moment of people using medium pimples. One of the Australian Women's team members Miao Miao uses medium pimples in the manner you describe. Miao blocks and hits with them.
Using medium pimples is easier to attack with than long pimples. However short pimples are even easier again. However the longer the pimples the more wobble you get on your stroke and the more unusual ball you hit to your opponents. Therefore it is a trade-off between control and unusual effect.
Make sure you buy a table tennis bat that is suitable for your level and allows you to develop your technique. For your first bat we recommend the PingSkills Rook, and when you upgrade to a custom bat we recommend the PingSkills Touch with Mark V or Rakza 7.
