Mentality for big local competition?

Mental Preparation

I'm soon competing in my local Youth Games in the UK, and will hopefully be selected to represent my county. It's my first big competitive tournament, and I have to get through three heats in order to be selected for the final. What mentality should I go in with, and what do I need to think about whilst preparing for my matches?

 Thanks,

Luke

Hi Luke,

Well done on reaching a good level already.

YOu should approach the competition with the attitude to play some good Table Tennis and implement things that you have been working on.  Make sure you think about your tactics against each player you will be playing.  Watch them before you play them if you can and work out something about their game.  YOu may find which side they are weaker on, or a particular serve or stroke they don't like.

Work hard for every point and see what the outcome is.

Good luck.

Hitting the Ceiling

When the ball hits the ceiling the point is over. You must hit the ball directly back onto the table otherwise you lose the point. In International tournaments the roof needs to be at least 5 metres above the playing surface but in local competitions you might often encounter much lower ceilings.
