Missing the ball completely

Strokes

Hi,

I have been playing for about 5 months now and have improved alot thanks to your instructional videos. I have this problem where occasionally I completely miss the ball altogether. Mostly this happens when I'm about to hit a topspin forehand. I'm aware sometimes I take my eyes off the ball. What can I do to address this?

HI Justin,

Watching the ball is really important.  I think this alone will help you to get better contact with the ball.  Also try having the face of your bat a little more open so that the ball is seeing more of the face of your racket as it approaches.

Focus on these two things and see if it helps.

Anticipation

How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.
