hey coach i came up against a far inferior player at a recent tournament and lost in only the second round. the reason for this is i play backhand defence with lp, and this player was a very consistent flat hitter and would hit winners to my backhand with my pips being unable to do nything about it. any help ?

Hi Azhar,

The key is to be able to place the ball well to make it as hard as possible for them to make that flat hit.  Also really focus on keeping the ball low.  The difference between trying to attack a low ball and one that is juts a few centimetres higher is quite drastic.

Thirdly, think about getting the ball as deep as possible on your opponent's side.  When the ball is close to the net they can attack a lot more easily.

Try these few things out and see if you can improve your game so that next time you get a chance to play a good flat hitter you will be able to stop them from making good attacks.
