More consistent against chopper

Strokes and Technique

Hi Coach,

I can play very well against a chopper by just pushing and using a forehand topspin after and go on in this pattern.

But last Saturday we had an away match and 1 of their teams play on a very high level. so i watched some of their matches on the table next to us and they came up against a team of 2 choppers with long pips and 1 attacker.

When i saw that i was curious how they would play against a chopper. And i could not believe what i saw, they kept topspinning against them like there was no backspin in it. you could hear they even made a pretty flat contact every time with a lot of speed.

My question is; how can i loop more consistent against a chopper and keep on attacking?, instead of loop, push, loop, push, etc...

i already tried it and all i get is medium or slow topspins low over the net and i have to use every single muscle to get it over the net every time. Of course i can keep going with that but it makes me exhausted during the match.

So do you have any tips?

Thanks in advance,

-Edwin

Hi Edwin,

Yes you will notice that all the top players can topspin consistently against the chopper.

The key is the angle of your racket and the speed of your swing.  If you open the angle you will be able to lift the ball easier.  If you are able to swing the bat through faster you will also get more lift. This doesn't take a lot of effort if you are relaxing your shoulder and arm through the stroke.  If you are trying too hard, the muscles will tighten up and make it harder for you to swing through.
