Over-the-table back foot

Footwork

Hi!

So when doing an over-the-table receive such as a short touch, a push, or a flick, you would step closer to the table and perform the stroke, but I was wondering if the foot in the back should be completely on the ground or only the upper part of the foot should be on the ground. Is it a personal preference or is there one that is better than the other? Thanks in advance.

Hi Andy,

The back foot can have the weight on the front of your foot.  You still need to be balanced when you make contact.  The other thing is that you need to be in a good position to be able to jump back into position for the next ball coming long.

Take a look at this tutorial on Footwork for a Short Ball to see what Jeff does with his back foot.

If you are in a defensive position and need to move quickly into the table or away from the table, what is the best foot movement to make to get to the ball quickly and be ready for the next shot?
