Hi Alois,

I'm having with my topspin technique. every time I try to topspin the ball goes high and off the table. How could I try and perfect my topspin?

Many thanks,

Hi William,

Try to just turn the angle of your bat more forward.  It could be as simple as this.  FIrstly begin by rotating your whole hand forward to close the angle of your bat.  You can also try making the stroke more forward rather than upwards.  With a penhold grip it is a little harder to get the hand to turn over enough.

In training think about getting the ball into the net rather than off the end.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
