Hi I play in my local league and do well until i come up against a pimple player.

i like to play with spinney serves and my game is based around my forehand smash or backhand chop.i play a patient game working the player around the table with my chop waiting for an opportuntiy get in with my forehand.

When i play against pimples the ball floats and stays low so i cant get my forehand into the game and my chops float long.when i play without any spin then the opponent flat hits me off the table.

Can you please give me some advice how to combat the float and how to get my shots into the game.

 thanks in advance mick.

Hi Mick,

If you are talking about short pimples, the idea is to work with backspin and heavy topspin.  The sort pimples players cope best with flat and fast balls.

Think about starting with heavy straight backspin serves and then using a heavily spun topspin.  This is the most difficult ball for a short pimples player.

The things to remember is that they can get some spin but not as much spin as reverse pimple rubbers so when they push there will not be as much spin as you are used to.  Similarly when they block the ball will tend to shoot through and keep a little lower.

Try to get as much practice as possible against this type of rubber.  That is always the best cure.
