Hi Michael,
The key is to get your racket travelling fast on contact with the ball.
You may need to get more body rotation or more movement from back to forward to help this depending on the type of shot you are playing and the amount of time you have for the stroke.
The other thing that will help is to get a flatter contact.

thanks alois i did try a flatter contact tonight but all the ball did was float over the net instead of just going over normally so my coach said maybe i need to upgrade my rubbers to slightly faster ones so it dont float

It may be that the rubber doesn't have grip rather than being slow.
