Prepare for a Training Camp

Training

Hi Alois,

I'm planning to attend a training camp. It lasts for five days and is very intense: 2-3 hours of practice before lunch, and the same amount after. However, I'm afraid that such an intense training will put in me in the deepest overtraining pit in my life. I train 3-4 times a week for 2-2.5 hours and sometimes I do get into overtraining zone (I absolutely hate it). I have about two months ahead of me, so what can I do best to prepare myself for it? Train as usual, or, maybe, play less and add a few jogging/swimming sessions per week to improve my stamina?

Hi Ilia,

I think you should just train as usual.  You can add a physical training as well to help you with your stamina as well.

#32 - Effective Returns

In this training plan we put together all of the different returns we've learnt and focus on producing an effective return. You should be aiming to topspin all long serves and then weighing up your options on the short serve. A good short push is a great option but you also need some variation with either a flick or a long fast push. Go out and put this training plan into action and work on improving your return.

Alois,

Thanks for your tips about recovery at the camp. Recently for me it was quite surprising how easy it is to accumulate under-recovery in table tennis training and end up overtrained.
