Hi , my problem is that I can put a short ball from my backhand for push or to counter a slow spinny topspin , I have seen your video of HOW TO COUNTER A SLOW SPINNY TOPSPIN but I am still unable to do it correct and I have no one to tell me where I am comitting a mistake .I cant figure out why I am unable to press that ball correctly with speed , long on the table . Also I have one more problem that I can play strokes very well cross court but I hit the ball out of the table almost all the time when I try to play it Down the line . So what can I do.

Hi Tushar,

COuntering a slow topspin is a really difficult stroke.  It sounds like you are hitting the ball long a lot.  This is really common.  In training see if you can aim at the bottom of the net.  Really aim to get the ball down that low.  This will get you to have a better contact on the ball. Try to get a quick contact on the ball so that the ball doesn't stay in the rubber for too long and spin up.

Playing down the line is a shorter distance so again you need to aim lower or shorter.  It is only a small difference but it can be enough to make you miss.  Practice hitting the ball down the line and have a target on the table to aim at.  This will focus you more.

Countering a Chop Block

The key is to countering a chop block is to ensure you wait for the ball as it comes through much slower compared to a normal block. You also need to lift the ball more than you would against a regular block.

Hi Tushar,

Aim for the net so that will get you to hit the ball lower.
