Pushers-counter attackers

Strategy

Hello Alois how's things with you? My question is this.

How do you play against players who just push the ball back very low all over the table with good spin. After quite a few hits they go wham with a massive very hard counter attack-drive shot. The ball comes over at a frenetic pace.

How can you beat these types of players any tactics? Any mental tricks to beat them. Any particular skills needed to beat them.

Hi Justin,

I find that the best way is to attack early in the rally.  The longer the rally goes, the harder it becomes to make the attack.  Start with an effective serve or return to create an opportunity to attack.

Even if you push the ball long and fast and then be ready to attack the next ball.

Tactics Against A Defensive Chopper

A chopper likes to get back from the table and get into a nice rhythm. If you keep the defender close to the table in the early part of the rally, it's hard for them to transition back into their chopping position. So keep the ball short on your serve and try and catch them unprepared. Watch the video to find out more great tactics to use against a defensive chopper.
