Rackets to improve strokes

Equipment

I have been playing table tennis as a hobby (no training) for many years(more than 10 years) and consider myself  better than beginners. Currently I am using this combination : FH (joola express 2), BH (Joola energy green power), blade (Donic Waldner Ultra Senso Carbon). Both  rubbers are tensor rubbers and blade has carbon layers.

The rubbers are fast (so i lose control sometimes) and help me generate spin without much effort - BUT the issue is when i went to play some competitive matches, i found that my strokes (eg. FH/BH topspins) are under developed i.e. my hand movements are not correct. It seems i should go for a slower equipment. I once played with mark V rubbers and found them better to control.

Will it help me to improve my strokes if i go for a slower equipment: say an all round off bat (no carbon layers) with matk V on both sides? Or any particular combination that you would advice me to go with?

Thanks for your time and effort

Hi Binayak,

It is always better to err on the side of having a bat that is too slow.  I think it would be good to go back a step and get something a little slower that you can feel confidence in playing your strokes with.  When the bat is too fast you tend to be tentative with your strokes trying to get the ball on the table.

Mark V is a good rubber and one we recommend.  You can get an All round rated blade or perhaps a Offensive- blade.  You certainly don't want anything too fast.

Choosing a Table Tennis Bat

Make sure you buy a table tennis bat that is suitable for your level and allows you to develop your technique. For your first bat we recommend the PingSkills Rook, and when you upgrade to a custom bat we recommend the PingSkills Touch with Mark V or Rakza 7.
