Strokes and Technique

Should the racquet be the same height as the ball or should it be lower than the ball.

Hi Janie,

For a serve you can start with the bat slightly higher than the ball or directly behind it.  For your strokes think about what type of spin you are trying to get on them.  If you want to get topspin you need to start slightly below the contact point of the ball.  If you want backspin it is easiest to start slightly higher than the contact point and brush under the ball.

Hi Janie,

If that is happening turn your bat more forward and brush the ball on contract to get a bit more topspin on it.  The topspin will help the ball dip onto the table.

Hi there,

First of all, the video makes it much more lively than the plain text answers, so if it doesn't take you too much more time to do the answers that way, I'm all for it. On the other hand, it probably wouldn't bring add too much in the case of "simple" questions (e.g. "Is brand X rubber Y a good one?") So I guess there is a selection to make and address primarily the questions for witch the video really brings a plus.

Now for the technical aspect, here are my comments on this first shot. I hope they are relevant and not linked to my computer / browser configuration, since this is the first time I ever watched such format.

1) Form 0'00'', I see both Question 1 and Q2 already displayed on the right side, but not Q3 (bat speed issue), which never gets displayed at all. I think it would be good to have all the questions displayed immediately, so one can read through them and see if he's interested in the answers or not.

2) At some point in the video, Q2 gets highlighted. That's would be good to do systematically, so that at any time point in the video we could immediately see which question is answered.

3) In the lower part of the screen, I see a line of dots, each of them moving the video forward X%. I see some of them are offset vertically, which seamed to indicate a "timepoint of interest", but they don't actually seam to the linked to anything relevant. Is it possible to use this feature to mark the beginning of a new question and help us browsing through them?

So in general, thank you for sharing all this, and hail the videos. Don't spend too much time on making them look perfect though, content primes.

Ciao,

J-B.

Hi J-B,

Thanks for that valuable feedback.  It is always appreciated.

I think most of the technical issues are related to us learning how to operate the Hangout in Google Plus.  Hopefully we will get more efficient at the process.  We will keep going with these and see how they work out.

Vertically offset dots represent places in the video where people pressed the "applause" or "boo" buttons found under the video in hangouts. It is supposed to show areas where people liked/disliked. When you click one of the answered questions in the sidebar, it changes to the time in the video the question was marked as "currently answering" for the first time. So I think there is no need to use offset dots to mark points of interest.

Hi Jean,

Thanks for the feedback. Yes I am meant to hit a button when we start answering a question. If I do this properly then all the questions will be indexed and you will be able to go straight to a question you find relevant or interesting. I messed up a little bit on the first two episodes as I wasn't used to hitting the buttons to mark the start and end of a question. Hopefully over time I'll get better at this as I think it will be really useful when I execute it properly!
