How do i read the spin on a serve?

Hi Matias,

You need to watch the way the bat contacts the ball. As a guide, if the bat comes underneath the ball or down the back of the ball, it will impart backspin. If the bat brushes up the back of the ball or over the top of the ball, it will impart topspin on the ball. If the bat brushes the side of the ball it will impart sidespin.

Fake Movements

After the ball has left the server's bat, they can no longer affect the spin that is on the ball. Any movements after the contact are referred to as fake movements and are meant to confuse you as the receiver. You need to focus on the contact to read the spin.
