Receiving different serves

Service Return

Hi Alois,

Thanks for the latest video; as usual it is very helpful and thank you!

I play with a guy who curves the ball in four different ways and I never seem to know which one is coming, he mixes them up of course.

I do know how to do a top and under spin serve but so far have been unable to handle to side spinning serves, left and right. It would be great if you would demo these so that I can follow how it is done and maybe recognize the opponents moves before the ball is on top of me!!

Cheers and thanks again for a great and informative site!

Andy.

Hi Andy,

The main thing is to watch the servers contact on the ball.  That gives you all the information that you need. It may not be easy to interpret it at first but the more you see it the better you will get at it.  You get the information initially by not only the contact by then also what happens when the ball hits your bat and the direction it travels.

Through practice you start to piece that together and make quicker choices.

We have the Receiving Secrets tutorials as part of the Premium membership that cover this in detail.  However take a look at the free tutorial on Understanding Spin to start with.

Thanks for your kind words about the site.  I am glad that it has been successful.
