Hi  Alois,

I am an offensive player.

Please tell me how to return a deep chop of a defensive player.  In fact, I find it very difficult to loop drive and whenever I tried, the ball goes to the net all the time.

Please help me with the right advise as to how to successfully deal with this situation.

Thanks for your help.

Hi ILMI,

To play against a deep chop you need to use the topspin against backspin stroke.

First though you need to get into position by moving back a little so the ball is not too close to you when you make the stroke. This will help you to make the racket move fast enough to lift the ball.  When yo uare out of position you wmay not be able to swing fast enough to lift the ball.  Often against heavy backspin we don't move our bat through fast enough to lift it over the net.

Good luck with it.

i was with ching xi (i dont know how to write it) the other day, and he was teaching me chop. The same problem occured to my opponent when we were practising. Ching xi told him you can angle your bat more flatly instead of angled so down to help lift the underspin, you still lift the ball like alios said with this stroke as you would with a normal topspin.
