wot is the best way to return a side-top spin & side-under spin serve because when i push a side-top spin serve the ball goes really high they smash it

Hi Jimmy,

The best idea is to flick the return.  As soon as a serve has any topspin on it, you are better off tomake an attacking stroke on the return.  THe flick is probably the safest option.  Take a look at our lesson on the Forehand Flick.

If it is a side-under spin serve then you can push it back just allowing for the sidespin.  So angle your bat like a rudder to steer the ball back onto the table.

If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball.
