Hi there,

i have been playing at my local club and cannot seem to return a long sidespin forehand, I hage been struggling with this for some time, do I just need to play a heavy topspin stroke or return with sidespin? In these rallies I am normally far back from the table and the ball curves away from me to my right, hence the sidespin, I am wondering whether this is my technique failing or positioning and footwork?

Cheers,

Hi Ryaan,

First, make sure yo are moving across to the ball.  Because it has sidespin it may be swinging away fro you so you need to follow that swing and get your self into a good position to hit the ball.

Then brush the ball with topspin to get more spin on the ball.  If you are in good position this will be a lot easier.  You can also use sidespin back like we show yo in the lesson on the Sidespin Forehand Topspin.
