Receiving
Hi Alois,
My opponent does long windshield wiper serves. Detecting type of spin is difficult for me and long seves makes him win most of points. How to return?
At times he does reverse service of windshield serve, so where to stand on the table end to prepare for the long serves?
Hi Mahesh,
Take a look at this recent question. Returning Windshield wiper serve
For where to stand to receive the serve look at where your opponent is serving from. Then think about the angles that he can get from there and try to position yourself in the middle of the possible areas he can serve to. This will change with the position of the server.
A really important skill in table tennis is to be able to judge if a serve will be short or long. If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball. However, if it is coming long then you can make a topspin attack. In this video we give you some tips to help you judge the length of the serve and hopefully this makes you a better returner.
